the zone asked: is it a prescription sunglass or should the eye doctor prescribe it? And generally under what condition do they prescribe it? (it is due to my insurance covering only prescription sunglasses)
Thanks.

presciption sunglasses simply means sunglasses made with the same kind of lenses that your regular glasses have. If you need to wear glasses to drive, then you should have prescription sunglasses. You should try to get “blue blockers” for UV protection.
You need to get a good eye exam to make sure the glare is not from something going on with your eyes. Yes the eye Dr. would prescribe them if they are prescription. It depends on your insurance if they would pay. You can call your insurance and ask them.
Prescription sunglasses are worn by people who need glasses to see things that are far away (nearsighted people). If you need glasses anyhow, you can’t wear most drugstore sunglasses because, while it would be dark enough, you wouldn’t be able to see where you were going. So you get glasses that are both corrective and tinted. If you don’t need glasses, you don’t need prescription sunglasses. Unfortunately your insurance won’t cover drugstore sunglasses. On the other hand, it isn’t as big a deal if you lose them or your stupid brother-in-law backs over them with a truck (as happened to me).
You go see the doc for your yearly eye exam. If you need glasses they prescribe them but then you also order a pair of sunglasses with your eye prescription in them. If you don’t need eye glasses then you get sunglasses at the eye place aka prescription sunglasses and your insurance will cover/.
